Permanent Jewelry 101

Everything you need to know before getting your forever link. From weld to wear- here's what to expect.

  • What Is Permanent Jewelry?

Permanent jewelry is custom-fitted and seamlessly welded to create a piece you can wear every day. Unlike traditional jewelry with clasps, it’s designed to stay on, forming a continuous loop that becomes a lasting part of your style.

  • What Is The Process & How Long Does it Take?

The process is simple and fun—the hardest part is usually choosing your favorite chain and charms ✨. We start with a consultation to go over your expectations, answer any questions, confirm length, review aftercare, and have you sign a quick waiver. Once you’re ready, the permanent jewelry experience unfolds in four easy steps:

        1.    Choose your chain – gold, silver, dainty, bold… the choice is yours.

        2.    Customize your look – add connectors, charms, or stamping for extra personalization.

        3.    Perfect the fit – we’ll measure and adjust the chain to your comfort and style.

        4.    Make it permanent – with a quick “zap,” the ends are welded together, creating your seamless forever piece.

  • Do You Have An Age Requirement For Permanent Jewelry?

The minimum welding age is 10 and must be able to sit completely still during the process.

Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and required to sign the minor consent waiver form ✨

  • Does It Hurt?

Not at all! The spark only touches the chain, never you. I place a piece of leather between your skin and the tool to keep you extra safe. It’s over in a flash—you won’t feel a thing!

  • Do I Need An Appointment?

Appointments are prefered for your forever link. Appointments are about 20 minutes and require a $25 deposit, which goes toward your bracelet the day of your visit.

*Please see the cancellation policy for more info

You can also find me popping up at local markets and trade shows—follow @embracethelink to see where I'll be next βœ¨πŸ’•

  • Who Should Not Wear Permanent Jewelry

For safety reasons, anyone with a pacemaker should NOT undergo the welding process.

  • How Much Is Permanent Jewelry?

Permanent jewelry can range depending on the metal and style you fall in love with πŸ’• Choose from 14k solid gold, 14k gold-filled, .925 sterling silver, or enamel—solid gold being the ultimate forever splurge ✨.

Enamel: $5 to $8 per inch

.925 Sterling Silver: $10 to $20 per inch

Gold Filled: $8 to $18 per inch

14K Solid Gold: $13 to $60+ per inch

Want to make it extra special? Add a charm for a little more sparkle, add stamping for extra personalization or create longer pieces like belly chains, hand chains, anklets and necklaces (20”+) with a small added cost per inch, based on your metal choice.

Bracelet sizing usually ranges from 6–7 inches for women and 7–8 inches for men. Because I carry so many different chain designs and your piece will also be designed to be uniquely yours,  I am not able to list exact prices -- thank you for understanding!

  • What Chains Can I Choose From?

  • What If I Change My Mind?

Changed your mind? If you’d like a clasp instead, I can remove the permanent link and add one for you (usually around $10+, depending on the metal of the clasp). If your jewelry ever needs a repair, please reach out first so I can assist you.

I also ask customers to complete a quick info and waiver form so I can keep your details on file—this helps me better assist you in the future if you ever need service ✨.

  • I Am Traveling or Having A Medical Procedure

Traveling? No worries! ✈️ Permanent  jewelry doesn’t set off airport metal detectors, so you can jet-set with your forever piece worry-free.

Having a medical procedure or an MRI? Certain medical procedures  and getting an MRI πŸŒ€ may require you to snip your sparkle for safety—but no worries! I will happily remove it and re-weld your piece after, free of charge βœ¨πŸ’•

  • Can My Permanent Jewelry Break?

My chains are designed to be dainty, minimalist, and perfect for everyday wear—but they aren’t indestructible. I encourage you to treat your forever piece with care πŸ’•.

If your welded link breaks within 7 days, I'll happily repair it at no cost as long as you keep the receipt. Please note: I cannot replace lost chains, as they may come undone from things like clothing snags or accidental mishandling.

  • Can I Swim Or Shower With Permanent Jewelry?

Absolutely! You can shower in my jewelry without worrying about tarnish or irritation—that’s why I recommend Gold Filled. Some of my charms are 18K Gold PVD coated 316L Surgical Grade Stainless Steel which will not fade, tarnish or turn skin green, even when worn in the ocean or pool. Solid 14K Gold chains holds its color and shine over a lifetime for permanent wear ✨.

Silver and enamel will naturally tarnish over time with exposure to different elements but can be polished to restore shine.

*NOTE, with all metals, exposing your permanent jewelry to highly chlorinated water or harsh chemicals can speed up tarnishing and wear especially with stainless steel that is not coated.

  • Solid Gold, Gold Filled, Gold PVD, Gold Plated Jewelry - Understanding Different Types of Gold Jewelry

    SOLID GOLD JEWELRY:

Solid gold is the best quality of gold jewelry there is. Solid gold is the only true type of metal that will never tarnish, lose value, and will last for generations to come, even with daily wear. I carry 14K solid white and yellow gold chains.

    GOLD PVD COATED JEWELRY:

Gold PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) jewelry is the ideal choice for durability and affordability. PVD-coated jewelry is created by applying a layer of gold onto a base metal, like stainless steel, through a high-temperature vacuum coating process utilizing titanium nitride. This process yields a non-tarnish, hypoallergenic, and affordable alternative to solid gold that will last for years to come. Some of my charms are 18K Gold PVD coated 316L Surgical Stainless Steel.

    GOLD FILLED JEWELRY:

Unlike vermeil and gold plated jewelry, gold filled jewelry has a much thicker layer of gold over the base metal. This makes a big difference in terms of the jewelry’s ability to resist wear and tear long term. It would be hard to tell the difference between “real” gold and a gold filled piece, but over time, the gold filled jewelry can tarnish. This is why I used 14k yellow gold filled to prevent tarnish on some of my available chains. With proper care these should not lose its gold luster for years to come.

    GOLD PLATED JEWELRY:

Traditionally, gold plated jewelry is brass, copper, or alloy with a thin layer of gold. Usually the less expensive option, gold plated jewelry doesn’t require any minimum karat weight or thickness, and tends to wear very quickly if not properly cared for. While gold plated jewelry is affordable and has the appearance of real gold, it will quickly tarnish over time, especially with daily wear and exposure to water, sweat, and chemicals. Some of my enamel charms are gold plated.

  • Permanent Jewelry After Care

To keep your permanent jewelry shining, clean it with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap (Dawn works best), and a soft toothbrush or cloth. Rinse well and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.

For silver pieces, a polishing cloth can help remove tarnish. To protect your sparkle, avoid harsh chemicals, perfumes, lotions, and chlorinated water.

This jewelry can undergo months of wear without needing to be cleansed. To maintain the integrity of the link, aftercare can be used to remove debris or build up. I will have jewelry cleaner available for purchase if you need products to keep your investment shining ✨
